An Inside Look at the Lehigh Valley Food and Wine Festival!

This past weekend, The Peak team had the opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Lehigh Valley Food & Wine Festival hosted by the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, and Northampton Community College. The annual event is in its fourth year and counting. This three day festival raises money for NCC and helps to promote some of the best restaurants in the area! Wine tastings, unlimited hor d’oeurves, appearances by the celebrated Chef, Emeril Lagasse... let’s just say the festival didn’t leave us hungry, or bored!!

The two-day Grand Tasting topped the list of events scheduled during the festival. Dozens of restaurants set up stands in the Sands Event Center, where students of the NCC culinary program worked alongside some of the region’s best chefs to create taste-sized portions of unique dishes. Over 2,000 people came to try out the different appetizers, entrees, desserts, and drinks that were offered. Live music could also be found at the indoor event, which gave people a nice break from one of the first 90 degree days of summer!

A cooking demo by Emeril Lagasse attracted many fans from around the region who came to watch his delicate preparation of a New Orleans inspired dish! His usual noteworthy side comments and wit appeased the crowd, along with the delectable smell of simmering Creole spices...Yumm!! The demo closed with the announcement of three winners selected from NCC’s Culinary program to experience a week-long internship, working alongside none other than the great chef himself, Emeril, at his restaurant down in New Orleans! The students who won were beyond appreciative of being able to pursue their passion for cooking at such a high level!!
